I should have stayed in Nova Scotia

I am way, way, way too old to be pulling all-nighters for work.  My only consolation is that Mr. Spock is suffering even more than I am.  Oh, and we returned from a lovely holiday to a busted sprinkler system and 1 inch/2.5 cm of water in the basement and $$$ in ruined carpet and now we have blow dryers and dehumidifiers rented for even more $$$ blowing in the basement 24/7.

So, I've been having to deal with Work Hell from home whilst making frantic calls to contractors and repairmen.

Blergh.

You are too blinking good to them (the work people)! Pulling all-nighters - no, definitely not. (unless dire emergency, of course. Like to prevent the atlantis-like subsidence of an entire sub-continent, maybe.

and that's very, very irksome for you, the water in the basement, and the wrangling with contractors. :( Sympathies. I hope the contractors snap to, and that you get to relax and gaze serenely around the restored, dry, recarpeted, welcoming, work-free basement soon.

Bah. I had a hilarious exchange with Mr. Spock today. He stormed in shouting, "BLAH BLAH IF YOU WANT TO TAKE OVER THIS CLIENT, GO AHEAD." It's taken 20 years but I surged out of my chair, stalked him down the hall, yelling the whole way about how that was uncalled for and I was trying to help and he knows I don't poach. He crumbled like a leaf --- classic passive/aggressive.

Excellent! Go, avenging angel of utterly righteous wrath!
(Righteous, and useful! :) It will have done him much good, even if he tries to suppress the memory; it'll stay like yeast, and work good in him from the inside out.)

What heliopausa said, really. And will insurance cover any of the cost?

It appears that insurance will be unhelpful given that we actually reserve it for truly catastrophic situations, of which this was not (leading to the question, WHAT IS truly catastrophic). And it could have been so much worse. Inconvenient and inexpensive, but not five figures worth of damage.

At least there is some small silver lining to this rather black cloud.

Damn, I am so sorry to read this! Hope it is much calmer up there by now.

And, yes, this is why we pay crazy money for insurance. Chris Rock once said it best: You hope you never need it, but you buy 'Insurance'. Shouldn't it be called 'In case Sith happens'! It certainly would be a better, much more apt name! :-P

And we carry high deductibles. And insurers are SO WEIRD about water damage. They don't cover runoff, but in this case, it was an internal pipe on our property, right next to the house, that ruptured right outside the house and spewed back right into the foundation. THe adjuster was very helpful -- listen, if your claim isn't big enough and it's not covered, it didn't happen and I don't make the report. because otherwise, rates go up.

Ugh, that's a horrible greeting on your return from what was a lovely holiday. I really hope things will get better for you soon!

Well, I have a new car now, which I kinda didn't want but now have. And the contractor comes this week to repair the damage, huzzah, i guess. How goes the hunt?

I haven't even started the hunt! I am taking July off to just relax (or try to, given how much time I've spent out and about even in this weather), and am ignoring all recruiter emails at the moment.

We should all stay in Nova Scotia.

I hope the repair people are found quickly and without drama . . . any chance insurance will get in on that with you?

Stay in NS and eat scallops and ice cream. Our very enjoyable stay in Annapolis Royale was especially fabulous because there were DOGS. I do hope you are having a lovely holiday.
